2012 International Service Annual Summary
Krishna C. Murthy, M.D. has been very active in conducting International and World Community Asthma Day
Camps in South India since 1987, as well as in Kenya, Africa. He has given new hope to more than 3,000
asthma patients in coping with their disease. He has given many seminars and lectures regarding allergies and
asthma to public groups, physicians and at various medical schools in India. Dr. Murthy is a pioneer in
implementing various World Community Service Projects through Matching Grants. So far, he has completed
59 Matching Grants and more than $700,000 has been funded. The Matching Grant Projects have helped
various health, school and social needs of the various clubs in South India. Dr. Murthy has said, “Rotary
International, the Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary Club and RI District 5440 have been very supportive of these
projects. Without the encouragement and financial support of the Rotarians of RI District 5440, such a task
would only be a dream”.
1. Matching Grant 3178 – AIDS Awareness Education Video, 1992. This $5,200 grant was helpful in
providing an AIDS awareness public education video in South India. The Rotary Club of Bangalore South,
RI District 3190 and the Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary Club provided funding.
2. Matching Grant 3375 – Elisa Reader, HIV Testing Equipment, 1993. This $4,000 grant provided HIV
testing equipment to a kidney dialysis and blood bank unit in Bangalore, India. The Rotary Club of
Bangalore South and the Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary Club provided funding.
3. Matching Grant 3818 – Rural School Equipment Project, 1993. This $40,000 grant was helpful in providing
basic furniture to rural schools in and around Bangalore, South India. RI District 3190 and various clubs in
RI District 5440 provided funding.
4. Matching Grant 4725 – Vocational Training in Computers, 1994. This $16,000 grant provided several
computers for vocational training in various rural vocational training schools in South India. The Rotary
Club of Bangalore West, RI District 3190 and the Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary Club provided funding.
5. Matching Grant 4894 – Rural Specialty Medical Clinic, 1995. This $1,400 grant provided needed
medications and other basic necessities for a weekly specialty medical clinic in the village of Kundapura in
South India. The Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary Club and the RI Foundation provided funding.
6. Matching Grant 5054 – Rural School Equipment Project, 1995. This $24,000 grant provided equipment for
rural schools in Mysore, India. District 5440, District 2280 in Norway, and the Rotary Club of Mysore,
provided funding.
7. Matching Grant 5260 – Rural School Furniture Project, 1995. This $8,000 grant provided furniture to
various schools in Mysore, India. The Fort Collins Foothills Rotary Club with the help of the Mysore North
Rotary Club provided funding.
8. Matching Grant 5487 – Equipment for Pediatric Ward in Rural Hospital, 1995. This $16,860 grant provided
equipment to the pediatric ward for a hospital in Tarikere, Mysore, India. Funding was provided by the
generous contribution of the Rotary Clubs of Sterling, Windsor, the Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary Club and
RI District 5440.
9. Matching Grant 5788 – Vocational Training for Construction Workers, 1995. This $4,264 grant provided
various equipment and vocational training for construction workers. The Rotary Club of Bangalore East, RI
District 3190 and the Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary Club provided funding.
10. Matching Grant 5998 – School Supplies for Handicapped Children in Rural India, 1996. This $2,800 grant
provided school supplies for 200 needy handicapped children in rural areas of Bangalore, India. The Fort
Collins Breakfast Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Bangalore West provided funding.
11. Matching Grant 6006 – Vocational Training and Equipment for Mental Retardation Center, 1996. This
$6,400 grant provided vocational training and equipment to a center for the mentally retarded in Bangalore,
India. The Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Bangalore West provided funding.
12. Matching Grant 6032 – Furniture for a Rural School, Water Supply and Sanitation Facilities, 1996. This
$10,000 grant provided various basic necessities to a rural school along with water and sanitation facilities
in Santhebunnur, India, RI District 3180. RI District 7630 and the Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary Club
provided funding.
13. Matching Grant 6829 – Community Toilets. This $12,700 grant provided eight community toilets in two
slums in Bhadravathi, Mysore, South India, RI District 3180. The Rotary Club of Bhadravathi, the Fort
Collins Breakfast Rotary Club and RI District 5440 provided funding.
14. Matching Grant 6830 – Destitute Home Project. This $21,000 grant provided basic necessities and a
homeless shelter in Bangalore, India. The Rotary Club of Bangalore West and the Fort Collins Breakfast
Rotary Club provided funding.
15. Matching Grant 7900 – Rural School Equipment Project, 1997. This $1,500 grant was helpful in providing
basic furniture to a rural school in Nallur, Channigiri, India. The Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary Club, RI
District 5440 and the Rotary Club of Channigiri, RI District 3180 provided funding.
16. Matching Grant 7901 – Computers for Education and Training at a Children’s Library, 1997. This $5,000
grant provided six computers for education and training. The Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary Club and the
Rotary Club of Bangalore South, India, RI District 3180 provided funding.
17. Matching Grant 7902 – Five-Hundred Intraocular Lenses, 1997. This $4,000 grant provided intraocular
lenses for needy patients following cataract operations in Bangalore. The Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary
Club and the Rotary Club of Bangalore South, India provided funding.
18. Matching Grant 7908 – Human Organ Donation Project, 1997. This $4,000 grant provided various
information regarding organ donation and brochures to encourage organ donation. The Fort Collins
Breakfast Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Bangalore, India provided funding.
19. Matching Grant 7932 – Rural School Equipment Project, 1997. This $6,471 grant provided various school
equipment for a rural school in South India. The Rotary Club of Cody, RI District 5440 and the Rotary
Club of Kallinpur, RI District 3180, India provided funding.
20. Matching Grant 8250 – Rural School Equipment Project, 1997. This $26,000 grant provided basic furniture
to twenty rural schools in South India. The Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of
Bangalore, JP Nagar, provided funding.
21. Matching Grant 8295 – Blood Bank Equipment Project, 1997. This $8,396 grant provided various
equipment to a blood bank in a small town in South India. The Rotary Club of Shamoga, RI District 3180,
the Rotary Club of Evanston and the Rotary Club of Kemmerer, RI District 5440 provided funding.
22. Matching Grant 9025 – Promotion of Micro Enterprises for Underprivileged Youth, 1998-1999. This
$4,447 grant helped underprivileged youth in rural areas of South India. The Rotary Club of Belthangady,
RI District 3180, the Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary Club and RI District 5440 provided funding.
23. Matching Grant 9026 – Rural School Equipment Project, 1998-1999. This $4,903 grant helped to equip a
rural school with furniture, a library and a science laboratory. The Rotary East Club, Shimoga, RI District
3180, the Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary Club and RI District 5440 provided funding.
24. Matching Grant 6976 – Columbia Water Project. This is a $150,000 project. The Fort Collins Rotary Club
sponsors the project; the Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary Club has contributed $2,000.
During the summer of 1999 following the RI meeting at Singapore, the following Fort Collins
Breakfast Rotary Club members went to South India and visited some of the previous
Matching Grant Projects and selected the following new Matching Grant Projects: Eva Sue
Littleton, Mark Korb – club president 99-00, Larry Salmen and Krishna Murthy. These
Rotarians had a wonderful visit and the Rotarians of Districts 3180 and 3190 were very
receptive and hospitable to their guests.
25. Matching Grant 12,024 – Mother and Deaf Child Project. This $12,320 grant helped to provide an
audiovisual synthesizer for identification and classification of hearing aids for children with hearing
disabilities. The Rotary Club of Mysore West, RI District 3180, the Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary
Club, and RI District 5440 provided funding.
26. Matching Grant 12,296 – Rural School Equipment Project. This $1,764 grant helped provide
furniture to a primary school and a girls’ high school at Channagiri, South India. The Rotary Club
of Channagiri, RI District 3180, and the Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary Club provided the funding.
27. Matching Grant 12,434 – Outreach Vehicle for Artificial Limb Center. This $16,000 grant provided a
specially equipped van for an artificial limb center. The Rotary Club of Mysore, RI District 3180, the
Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary Club and RI District 5440 provided the funding.
28. Matching Grant 12,760 – Street Kids Vocational Training. This $10,000 grant provided automobile
driving skills training for unemployed street youth. The Rotary Club of Bangalore Northwest, RI
District 3190, the Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary Club and RI District 5440 provided the funding.
29. Matching Grant 13,669 – Rural School Equipment Project. This $1,990 grant provided furniture and
lab equipment to three small rural schools at Sunthebennur, South India. The Rotary Club of
Sunthebennur, RI District 3180 and the Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary Club provided the funding.
30. Matching Grant 13,670 – Drinking Water and Rural School Equipment Project. This $5,200 grant
provided furniture to a rural school and drinking water facilities to two rural schools. The Rotary
Club of Shimoga, RI District 3180, the Foothills Rotary Club of Fort Collins and RI District 5440
provided the funding.
31. Matching Grant 16901 - Fetal Monitoring Equipment Project. This $6164.00 grant provided fetal
Monitoring equipment to K.C. General Hospital maternity ward at Bangalore, South India. The
funding was provided by the Fort Collins Breakfast Club and the Rotary Club of Bangalore, North
West.
32. Matching Grant 20452 – Public School Drinking Water Project 2002. This $7348 grant provided safe
drinking water facilities to 8 public schools around Shimoga, South India. The funding was provided by Fort
Collins Breakfast Club, RI District 5440 shared funds and Rotary Club of Shimoga, RI District 3180.
33. Matching Grant 20471 – Rural School Equipment Project 2002. This $1000 grant provided desks to 3
classrooms and water supply to a rural high school in Gullehalli, Near Channagiri, and South India. The funding
was provided by Fort Collins Breakfast Club and Channagiri Rotary Club, RI District 3180.
34. Matching Grant 20472 – Radiotherapy-Cobalt 60 Cancer Treatment Project 2002. This $46,404 grant
provided Cobalt-60 teletherapy source to Bharat Cancer Hospital, Mysore, and South India. The funding was
provided by Fort Collins Foothills Club, Bharat Cancer Trust, and Mysore Area Club, RI District 3180.
35. Matching Grant 21589 - Asthma Nebulization Machine Project 2002. This $4000 grant provided
nebulization equipment to 56 primary health care centers in the state of Andhra Pradesh, South India. The
funding was provided by Fort Collins Breakfast Club, RI District 5440.
36. Matching Grant: 22297-Multi-utility van for the Rotary Blood Bank 2003. Rotary Midtown Eye Bank and
Rotary Diabetic Forum, Shimoga, India. This $12,000 grant will provide a much needed transportation vehicle
for the Midtown Rotary, Shimoga and RI District 3180 and Ft. Collins Breakfast Club 5440.
37. Matching Grant: 22493-Rural School Equipment and Drinking Water Project 2003: This $2050 grant will
provide much needed school equipment, toilets and drinking water to a Higher Primary School at Nallur in
South India. Rotary Club of Channagiri and RI District 3180 and Ft. Collins Breakfast Club provided the
funding
38. Matching Grant: 22933-Driving Training for Street Youths 2003. This $6120 grant will provide necessary
education and training in driving skills for disadvantaged youths (both boys and girls) of Bangalore, India. Ft.
Collins Breakfast Club, RI District 5440, Northwest Bangalore Club and RI District 3190 provided the funding.
39. Matching Grant: 22934 – Satellite Blood Storage and Distribution Center 2003: This $17,600 grant will
provide necessary deep freezers and equipment to Rotary TTK regional blood bank and Satellite Blood bank at
K.C. General Hospital, Bangalore, India. Ft. Collins Breakfast Club, RI District 5440, Northwest Bangalore
Club and RI District 3190 provided the funding.
40.Matching Grant: 23837 – Additional Equipment for Satellite Blood Storage and Distribution Center 2003:
This $5100 grant will provide necessary deep freezer and equipment to Satellite Blood Bank at K.C. General
Hospital, Bangalore, India. Ft. Collins After Hours Club, the Ft. Collins Breakfast Club and the Northwest
Bangalore Club provided the funding.
41.Matching Grant: 51626- Multi –Rural School Equipment Project: This $2000 grant will provide much
needed basic school equipment and library needs to two rural schools at Channagiri, South India. Rotary club of
Channagiri,India,RI District 5440 and Fort Collins Breakfast club provided the funding.
42.Matching Grant: 51627- Rotary Youth Center-A Youth Gymnasium Centennial Project: This $12,000 grant
will provide equipment at a Gym to promote physical and health among youngsters at Shimoga.The Rotary
Club of Shimoga,South India, RI District 5440 and Fort Collins Breakfast Club provided the funding.
43.Matching Grant: 53458 -Drinking Water and Sanitary Facilities at rural High School in South India – an
Extension of an Interact Project-This $5614 grant will provide clean drinking water and basic sanitary facilities
at SVN High School in south India. Fort Collins Club, RI District 5440, Fort Collins Breakfast Club and
Karkala Rotary Club, India provided the funding
44. Matching Grant; 58840- Sringeri Multiple Rural School Project-This $22,394 grant will provide basic
infrastructure like Lab equipment,furniture,drinking water and sanitary facilities to7 public school in and around
Sringeri,South India. Fort Collins Club,RI District 5440,Fort Collins Breakfast Club,Sringeri Rotary Club
provided the funding.
45. Matching Grant: 61416- 2006-07 Channagiri 12 rural public schools project-This $15,000 grant will provide
basic school equipment like benches and desks to 12 rural schools in around Channgiri, South India. Fort
Collins Breakfast club,RI district 5440 and Channgiri Rotary clubs provided the funding.
46. Matching Grant: 62370 2006-07 Koppa Rural School Project-This $19,871 grant will provide
benches,desk,computers,LCD projector,lab equipment,sanitary facilities,librarty books and furniture to 5 rural
schools in Koppa and surrounding rural areas. Fort Collins Breakfast club, RI district 5440 and Koppa Rural
Rotary Club provided the funding along with RI foundation.
47. Matching Grant 2008: 64532- Shimoga Surgical Rotary Camp- This $16,771 grant provide funds to
provide free surgical services for many conditions including diagnosis and operative procedures and fitting
hearing aids to underprivileged men, women and children. Shimoga Rotary club, Fort Collins club, Fort Collins
Breakfast club, RI district 5440 and RI Foundation provided the funding.
48. Matching Grant 2008: 64540-Aralagodu Primary Health Center. This $17,771 grant provided two
ambulances with basic equipment and improves the maternity ward and basic laboratory equipment for
Aralagodu PHC in rural South India. Karuna Trust and local government are also partners in this project. Rotary
Club of Shimoga, Fort Collins Rotary, Fort Collins Breakfast Club, RI district 5440 and RI Foundation
provided the funding.
49. Matching Grant 2008: 64620- Barkur Rotary School Project: This $16,976 grant provided school
equipment including benches, desks for 3 rural schools and upgrading a play ground for a junior college in and
around Barkur in South India. The project will help more than1500 students. Barkur Rotary, Fort Collins
Breakfast club, friends of Rotary and RI foundation provided the funding.
50. Matching Grant 2009: 68094-Shimoga Rotary Dairy project: This $16,667 grant will provide 50 hybrid
cows to underprivileged women in slums of Shimoga and rural areas. This will help economically and help
women empowerment. Shimoga Rotary, Fort Collins Breakfast Club, RI district 5440 and RI Foundation
provided the funding.
51. Matching Grant 2009: 68095-Multiple Ambulance for Primary Health Care: This $21,302 grant will
provide three ambulances to PHC in rural South India. This will help to transfer patients to PHC and to regional
hospitals. Karuna Trust in India will be a partner in this project. Shimoga Rotary, Fort Collins Rotary, Fort
Collins Breakfast club, RI District 5440 and RI foundation provided the funding.
52. Matching Grant 2010: 71489- Channagiri Multiple Rural School Project: This $12,026 grant will provide furniture to 10 rural
Public schools and Lab equipment for a Junior College in around Channagiri, South India. Channagiri Rotary, Fort Collins Breakfast
and RI District 5440 provided the funding.
53. Matching Grant 2010: 71515-Koppa Rural School Project: This $11,791 grant will provide furniture, safe drinking water and
sanitation facilities to 3 rural schools in and around Koppa, South India. Koppa Rural club, Fort Collins Breakfast and RI District 5440
provided the funding.
54. Matching Grant 2010: 72324-Shankar Eye Hospital Project: This $21277 grant will provide much needed Specular Microscope
to Shankara Eye Hospital in Shimoga and will serve hundreds of needy patients for improvement of their vision. Rotary Club of Fort
Collins, Colorado, Shimoga Rotary, RI District 5440 and Mysore Medical college alumni association provided the funding.
55. District Simplified Grant 2010: DSG 01- Birthing Kit project: This $8000 grant will provide 2400 birthing kits to 24 Primary
Health Centers in Karnataka State, India. The kits will be provided by AYZH, a Technology Solutions for Women Company headed
by Zubaida Bai. Rotary Club of Fort Collins, Fort Collins Breakfast, Shimoga Rotary club and RI District 5440 provided the funding.
56. District Simplified Grant 2011: DSG 018- This grant of $10,389 for Shankara Eye hospital at Shimoga, India provided
Tonometer and Monometer for this eye hospital and helped to provide eye surgery for needy patients. Rotary club of Fort Collins
Breakfast, Fort Collins Rotary club, Shimoga Rotary and RI District 5440 provided the funding.
57. District Governor’s Grant 2011: DGG 019- This grant of $16,667 for Shankara Eye hospital at Shimoga, India provided
operating Microscope for this eye hospital and helped to provide eye surgery for needy patients. Rotary club of Fort Collins Breakfast,
Fort Collins Rotary club, Shimoga Rotary and RI District 5440 provided the funding.
58. District Grant 2012: DG 1014- Channagiri Multiple Rural School Project: This $7034grant will provide furniture to 7 rural
Public schools and Library furnishes in and around Channagiri, South India. This project helps nearly 2000 students from various
public schools. Channagiri Rotary, Fort Collins Breakfast and RI District 5440 provided the funding.
59. District Grant 2012: DG 1033- Toilet and Drinking water school for project-Koppa Rural Rotary, India. This $15,000 grant
helped at least 1000 students in two rural schools in Koppa, a rural town in south India and provided much needed sanitary facilities
and drinking water in predominantly girls’ schools. Koppa Rural Rotary, Fort Collins Breakfast, RI District 5440 and Fort Collins and

As you can see, the World Community Service Project Committee of our club has been very active in keeping pace with
various projects. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the District Committee members for the World Community Service
Projects. I would also like to thank our District Governors over the past twenty years for their enthusiasm and support. I also greatly
appreciate the support and enthusiasm provided by the Board Members, International Committee Members, and the Presidents of the
Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary Club for their continued support. Our district’s club support in these projects has been very generous
and should help thousands of needy people in the rural parts of South India.
