Program: Remembering 911, Fire Chief Rick Vander Velde
-Fire Chief in Golden, went to ground zero to look for victims after 9/11/2001. He is a friend and former coworker to Brian McLaine
-National Response Framework was originally 16 teams across the nation, originally developed to repond to natural disasters. After Oklahoma City, it expanded to include man made disasters.
-There is now 26 teams spread across the nation. They can respond within six hours. Type 1 teams responds to large disasters and type 3 teams respond to smaller disasters.
-Colorado Task Force 1 was part of the original task force for NRF starting in 1991. We were the first team to be multi jurisdictional (FoCo to Colorado Springs)
-COTF1 worked 11 days on the pile at ground zero.
-The teams include command personnel, rescue, hazmat, ER doctors, transportation, logistics, planning, communications, structural engineers and K-9 searchers. The teams are designed to be self sufficient for at least 72 hours and to work around the clock.
-They have responded to 9/11, six hurricanes, Columbia shuttle disaster, Colorado floods, Windsor tornado
-Funding comes from the recovery and response budgets from FEMA via the Stafford Act.
-World Trade Center registry is covering ground zero workers for 80 years for a variety of cancers.
-80 people deploy on a team and are responsible for keeping up their individual certifications for their professions
-The most difficult part for him was seeing the traumatized look in the NYFD firemen's eyes on arrival to the site of the Twin Towers.
-Fort Collins has a 9/11 Memorial in Spring Creek Park behind Fire Station 3 with 343 paving stones honoring the firefighters who perished in the attack. 2000 Mathews St, Fort Collins CO 80525

Phil Murphy: In addition to this upcoming Thursday's drop off for hygiene products, the Community Service Committee has decided to also collect on Thursday September 25 for those of you that will not be at the meeting on September 18 (or will forget).
Food Bank Friday is this Friday, September 19. Email invitations have been sent for sign up.
Gary Turner: Christ United Methodist Church, has a Build Day scheduled with Habitat on Tuesday, September 23, from 8 AM to 3:30 PM, and needs 3 more volunteers! The site is Heartside Hill Development, 1003 Brittany Dr. (near Heart of the Rockies Church). You must be at the site by 8 AM to get the day's info and assignment. Lunch will be provided by the church. If you're able to help, please let me know by responding to this message or by calling me at 970-217-1232 before September 19.
Gary Turner: On October 9, we will meet off-site at Christ United Methodist Church at 301 E. Drake. Our program will be about the local Garth Englund Blood Bank. In conjunction with the program the club will sponsor a blood drive at the church. The Bloodmobile will be in the east parking lot and the drive will be from 8 AM to 3 PM. Bob Waltermire: The next meeting of the International Service Committee will be held on September 30th instead of our usual day. The meeting will be held at the Horse & Dragon Brewing Company and via Zoom. The meeting will start as usual at 7:00 p.m. and end at 8:30 p.m. All Rotarians and guests are welcome.
Bob Melrose: Two of our slots for the angel donor support have been claimed. We have two more to give out. If you have never been to a District Assembly before and would like to go to the one this September 27th then please drop me a line and you will be covered. It is being held in Cheyenne and last from 9:00-3:30 that day. Light breakfast and a good lunch are provided.
