- Maria Elena Thomas presented a check for $300 to Maureen (Mo) Posten, Assistant Principal at Centennial High School for Centennial High Fall Family night Tuesday, November 11th. All Rotarians are invited. Family night begins at 4:15 with classroom visits directed by students. There will be a dinner in the gym and presentation of awards from 5 - 6pm. It is free to everyone. They have asked Rotarians to RSVP at this link: https://tinyurl.com/FallNight25 On the form you will be asked for a student name, which for us is “Rotary”.

Teacher of the Month:
Dan St. John introduced Jennifer Castor, Assistant Principal at Beattie Elementary who introduced our Teacher of the Month, Jill Cripe, 2nd Grade teacher at Beattie Elementary. Jill has been teaching for 30 years and mentoring dozens of educators.

Student of the Month:
Dan St. John introduced Maureen (Mo) Posten, Assistant Principal at Centennial High School who introduced Student of the Month, Maddox Davis. Maddox exemplifies the Centennial High School values of positive mental attitude and politeness.

New Member Induction:
Leighanne Alford introduced the newest member of our club, Ria Kulenski. Welcome Ria!

New Member Talk:
Lauren Brainard will be graduating from CSU next month with degrees in Chemical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. Laurien presented a PowerPoint to explain why she joined Rotary (because our club is so friendly and welcoming) and to introduce the club to CarbonTech, a company Lauren started in a chemistry lab at Colorado State University with four other women students. CarbonTech’s Misson is to combat climate change by providing direct air capture devices that efficiently adsorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and follow the natural carbon cycle.

Program:
Diane Knight introduced Bob Melrose, Phil Murphy and Susan Peterson who shared Rotary historical trivia:
-The origin of the Vocational Classification System to limit the number of any one occupation in a Rotary club
-How the 4-Way Test was created at Alcoa Aluminum and adopted by Rotary
-The first $26.50 donation to the Rotary Foundation
-1987 Supreme Court case that allowed women in Rotary
Mary Catherine Limbird discussed how club members can look at “Life Beyond the Club,” by:
- Attending Rotary International Convention or Rotary Peace Convention
- Hosting an exchange student or participating in an International Project or Polio Immunization
- Join Rotary Fellowships or Rotary Action Groups
Walt Grady introduced us to the concept of Peace Centers:
-Rotary Peace Centers are academic institutions located at universities worldwide that train professionals in peacebuilding and conflict resolution through master's degree programs and certificate programs. The Rotary Peace Fellowship fully funds up to 130 leaders each year to study at these centers, covering tuition, fees, living expenses, and other costs. The program's goal is to develop effective catalysts for peace by combining academic study with practical experience and networking opportunities.
