Some background information and insight into our newest member, Becky de la Torre, MD.
What is your Job title and company: Physician and co-owner of Allura Skin, Laser and Wellness Clinic.
I practiced in Lincoln, NE for 4 years before moving to Colorado. I practiced traditional medicine in Loveland until 2004 and then in Fort Collins from 2004-2008. I have owned a medical spa since 2004.
We lived in Fort Collins from 1993 to March 2019. We now live in Windsor.
I grew up in El Paso, Texas. Received a BA in Human Biology from Stanford University. Graduated from the University of TX Medical School at Houston. Trained in Family Medicine in Austin, Texas. Then moved to Lincoln, NE where I practiced Family Medicine. Relocated to the Fort Collins/Loveland area to practice medicine. I enjoy spending time with my family. I have recently taken up golf and cycling. Love long walks with my husband and Chihuahuas. In my spare time, I enjoy making quilts.

Why did you want to join Rotary?  I was so impressed by the passion and commitment of the FC breakfast Rotary members & their committees. As a physician, I have always served others. Rotary is a perfect continuation of my commitment to “serve others above self.”

What would you like to share with Fort Collins Breakfast Rotary members?
I grew up in El Paso, fortunate to be surrounded by a very large & loving extended family. Receiving an education was my dad’s goal for all of his children. As a first generation American, he saw how an education would improve our lives. Certainly, he was our role model having received both undergraduate and Master’s degrees in electrical engineering and physics and a Doctorate in Physics.  My brother and sisters fulfilled my father’s goal as we all graduated from college. My brother went on to law school and I became a physician.
My husband Cris de la Torre is also from El Paso. We dated in the summer of 1977 but then went our separate ways when I went off to college in California. Nine years later, we re-connected in Austin, Texas. At the time Cris was in graduate school at the University of Texas and I was a Family Practice intern. We were married three months after our first lunch date and have been married for over 34 years.

I have been a Family Physician for over 32 years. When I was in medical school, I thought I was going to become a pediatrician. But I found that I loved various fields of medicine (from internal medicine to pediatrics) and decided Family Medicine would allow me to practice various fields of medicine becoming a generational doctor. The obstetrics part of my practice, delivering babies, to this day remains the most rewarding and my favorite aspect of being a family physician.

In 2004, after many years of practicing “traditional” medicine, I narrowed my scope of practice to dermatology and women’s health opening my first medical spa & wellness center. In 2008, I opened Allura Skin, Laser and Wellness Clinic, a medical spa with hormone replacement therapy for men & women. I now have 3 partners, a medical staff that includes 3 physicians, 2 physician assistants, 4 nurses, 5 medical aestheticians and an amazing management and office staff. I am proud of our clinic and the services that we provide to northern Colorado and the surrounding areas. We are a national recognized aesthetic practice and have won many awards in this field. However, most special to us is our local awards. We are NOCO Style Magazine’s “Best of NOCO” MED SPA for the 7th year in a row!  We are grateful to the support that our community has given us for these many years. In turn, we support many local causes and organizations including HOPE LIVES, RESPITE CARE, NOCO United for YOUTH, CASA, MATTHEWS HOUSE and Larimer Humane Society, just to name a few.
I have received much joy and satisfaction from being a physician, however it is my family that gives me much happiness.  My husband Cris is a finance professor at UNC in Greeley. We have 3 adult children: Alyssa, Jacob (who married his college sweetheart, Brenica Bellin) and Gabrielle. But  I must admit that my greatest joy comes from having a granddaughter, Vera Collins who will soon be joined by a little brother in JUNE 2021.
